In case you were looking forward to this weekend’s Premier League matches, we’ve got some bad news for you. Several games have been postponed in the face of Covid-19 outbreaks, as more and more players got tested positive for the virus. Shortly after postponing Saturday’s game between Manchester United and Brighton, the Premier League representatives also announced they’re pulling the plug on the following matches: Southampton-Brentford, Watford-Crystal Palace, West Ham-Norwich, and Everton-Leicester. “The league understands fans will be disappointed these matches have had to be postponed and apologizes for the inconvenience and disruption caused. All other fixtures due to be played this weekend are currently scheduled to proceed as planned,” reads the statement released by the League. They also added that the current fixture schedule will continue when “safely possible”. This announcement comes shortly after it was confirmed there had been a record 42 positives over the previous seven days on Monday, with a number of cases quickly growing. Several games are still expected to proceed despite the recent Covid-19 spike. Matches between Aston Villa and Burnley, plus Leeds United and Arsenal are scheduled to proceed as planned on Saturday. When it comes to Sunday, Wolverhampton-Chelsea, Newcastle United-Manchester City, and Tottenham Hotspurs-Liverpool are still set to face each other, unless there are some changes in the meantime.
