Novak Djokovic Withdraws From French Open with Knee Injury

Novak Djokovic overcame many obstacles to make it to the French Open quarter-finals, but his time at the tournament was eventually cut short. The 24-time Grand Slam champion decided to end his title defense and pull out of Roland Garros due to a knee injury. Djokovic entered this year’s French Open as a defending champion and played several epic matches on his way to the quarter-finals before pulling out of the tournament. "I am really sad to announce that I have to withdraw from Roland Garros. I played with my heart and gave my all in yesterday's match and unfortunately, due to a medial meniscus tear in my right knee, my team and I had to make a tough decision after careful consideration and consultation," wrote Djokovic on social media. This announcement comes shortly after he suffered a right knee injury in his fourth-round victory against No. 23 Francisco Cerundolo. It was his second consecutive five-set match, and it went down in history as his longest French Open match at 4 hours and 39 minutes. It also marked his 370th Grand Slam victory, breaking the record previously held by Roger Federer. Following Djokovic's withdrawal, Casper Ruud automatically made it to the semi-finals, and he’ll either face Alexander Zverev or Alex de Minaur in the next round.
