Nations League: Switzerland Hands Spain Their First Home Loss in Four Years

Spain entered their latest UEFA Nations League game with high hopes, but they were dealt a huge blow after facing Switzerland. The Swiss team managed to score a confident 2-1 win on Saturday, handing the Spaniards their first home loss in four years. This marks only the second home loss for the Spanish team in almost 20 years and the only loss in their past 56 competitive home matches. Manuel Akanji opened the scoring for Switzerland, and Jordi Alba managed to level for Spain, but Breel Embolo eventually led the Swiss to the 2-1 lead in the second half. Spain coach Luis Enrique said they have to improve and keep on working after their most recent loss and praised the performance of the Swiss side. "They pressed well and are physically strong. They prevented us from playing our game. We started the second half better and right after we equalized, they went back in front. It's never easy to beat Switzerland,” said Enrique. Spain will play their next match against Portugal on Tuesday, while Switzerland is set to face the Czech Republic on the same day. All four teams are part of Group A2, and the match between Portugal and Spain will determine who’ll make it to the Nations League Finals.
