Liverpool Defeats Crystal Palace with Controversial Late Penalty

Liverpool was in a dominant lead since the beginning of their game against Crystal Palace, but it was a controversial last-minute penalty that led them to victory. They defeated the Eagles 3-1 and snuck up to Manchester City in Premier League rankings. The Reds were on fire in the first half of their most recent face-off with Crystal Palace, and it didn’t take them long to take the lead. Virgil van Dijk’s bullet header gave Liverpool their opener, and he was quickly followed by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s second goal. Crystal Palace tried to make a comeback in the second half, and Odsonne Edouard scored a goal they desperately needed ten minutes later. As the game approached its final minute, Fabinho cemented Liverpool’s domination with a late penalty shot. This penalty proved to be controversial, with VAR ruling over the referee Kevin Friend, who initially wasn't interested in awarding foul when Diogo Jota was brought down by goalkeeper Vicente Guaita. Following this match, the Reds moved within nine points of Manchester City in the Premier League, but Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp said it’s too early to think about catching up because they’ll be taking it one game at a time. “The distance is too far to talk about it but we don't have to. We just need to win football matches. We will see what happens in the final few months," said Klopp.
