League Cup: Liverpool Defeats Leicester City on Penalties

Everyone expected Liverpool to score an easy win in their latest League Cup match, but Leicester City gave them a run for their money. The Reds managed to win on penalties after an intense face-off that kept us on the edge of our seats until the very last minute. Leicester was on the roll in the first half, as Jamie Vardy scored two goals just 13 minutes into the game. They were in the 3-1 lead by the time the second half rolled around but Liverpool managed to make a glorious comeback. Takumi Minamino’s late strike forced a penalty shootout. The Reds ultimately prevailed thanks to his dominant performance and two goals previously scored by his teammates Diogo Jota and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. After their most recent League Cup win, Liverpool is set to play their next two Premier League matches against Leeds on December 26 and Leicester City on December 28. Liverpool’s manager Jurgen Klopp criticized the fixture schedule, as the increase in Covid cases significantly impacted several clubs, and asked for the authorities to react. “Even though I don't think it is right in normal times, it feels wrong to insist teams play fixtures within two days of each other in this present situation. I implore those with the power to make a change to intervene. Please do so for the welfare of the players,” said Klopp.
