Conor McGregor Shares a Real Reason Behind His UFC 303 Exit

Conor McGregor was supposed to face Michael Chandler in the UFC 303 main event before announcing his withdrawal earlier this month. His exit stirred a lot of commotion, and he finally took to social media to confirm he decided to quit after suffering a toe injury. McGregor hasn’t fought in the UFC since 2021, but he was supposed to make his big comeback at UFC 303 on June 29. UFC president Dana White announced this fight was canceled due to McGregor’s training injury, and it was replaced by the face-off between light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira and Jiri Prochazka as the main event. The nature of McGregor’s injury wasn’t disclosed at first, but he recently took to social media to explain he hurt his toe. “We had a lapse in concentration and engaged in a training session without wearing the full protective gear, and I hit the toe off the elbow and broke the toe clean. It needs a few weeks that’s it. I couldn’t justify to my team, or fans, that I make the walk hindered again. That walk has been seen. This next walk has got to be, and it will be, 100% Conor McGregor,” he wrote on Instagram. UFC is now planning to reschedule McGregor-Chandler for the second half of 2024, most likely in August or September.
