Bubba Wallace Makes History with His First NASCAR Cup Series Win

Bubba Wallace earned his first NASCAR Cup Series win at Talladega, and it was a ride to remember. In addition to scoring his first career win, Wallace also made history as the first Black driver to win the race in NASCAR's top-flight since Wendell Scott in 1963. Wallace earned his first career Cup Series win after the race was shortened due to heavy rain. NASCAR tried to dry the track, but eventually called things off as the rain showed no sign of ceasing, and declared Wallace the winner since he was in the lead before the race was stopped. This makes Wallace only the second black driver in history to ever be crowned as NASCAR Cup Series winner. He’s following the footsteps of NASCAR Hall of Famer Wendell Scott, who did the same in 1963, and he couldn’t be any prouder of this achievement. “This is for all the kids out there that want to have an opportunity and whatever they want to achieve, and be the best at what they want to do. You’re going to go through a lot of BS. But you always got to stick true to your path and not let the nonsense get to you,” said emotional Wallace after the race.
