Brazil vs Argentina World Cup Qualifier Canceled Due to Covid Violations

Several World Cup qualifying games took place this weekend, but everyone was talking about the one that wasn’t even played. The match between Brazil and Argentina was canceled as health officials invaded the pitch, accusing several players of violating Covid-19 rules. The game was supposed to take place in Sao Paulo this Sunday, but things escalated when Brazilian health authorities invaded the pitch five minutes after kickoff and stopped the game. The accused four England-based players for Argentina of breaking Covid-19 rules, stating that travelers coming to Brazil from the UK must quarantine 14 days on arrival. Even though the players in violation of Covid-19 rules weren’t named, it was pretty obvious they’re referring to Emiliano Buendia and Emiliano Martinez, who play for Aston Villa, and Giovani lo Celso and Cristian Romero of Tottenham Hotspur. The coach of the Argentina national team, Lionel Scaloni, was disappointed by the resolution and claimed they weren’t notified that the players in question couldn’t take part in the match. "It makes me very sad. I am not looking for any culprit. If something happened or did not happen, it was not the time to make that intervention. It should have been a party for everyone, to enjoy the best players in the world,” Scaloni told TyC Sports. FIFA’s disciplinary committee will be in charge of deciding the most appropriate course of action after gathering evidence about alleged Covid violations.
