Atlanta Braves Sign $72 Million Deal with Rookie Michael Harris II

Michael Harris II is one of the latest additions to the Atlanta Braves roaster, but he’s planning to stay with this team for a long, long time. The Rookie outfielder signed a blockbuster $72 million extension that will keep him in Atlanta for the next eight years. According to his new conditions, Harris will be paid $5 million for the first two seasons of the contract, starting with 2023. His salary will jump up to $8 million in 2025 and steadily rise over the years until reaching $12 million in 2030. Harris’s new deal also includes a $15-million club option for 2031 with a $5-million buyout and a $20-million club option for 2032 with another $5-million buyout. This contract marks the third-highest guarantee ever given to a rookie player with less than a year of experience in MLB. Harris abandoned his plans to play college baseball at Texas Tech University when he was signed by the Braves for a bonus of $548,000 earlier this year. It didn’t take him long to prove himself as a valuable addition to the team, and he won a Rookie of the Month Award in June. He’s currently one of the strongest candidates for the Rookie of the Year Award, along with his teammate Spencer Strider.
