2024 NBA Draft: Zaccharie Risacher Joins Atlanta Hawks as First Overall Pick

This year’s NBA Draft has been a historic one for the French players, and three of them were chosen as the top ten picks. Zaccharie Risacher was chosen as the first overall pick by the Atlanta Hawks, following in the footsteps of fellow French star Victor Wembanyama. It was a close race between Risacher and Alex Sarr, but Atlanta eventually decided to call Risacher as their No. 1 pick, while. Sarr was selected with the second overall by the Washington Wizards. Fellow Frenchman Tidjane Salaun went to the Charlotte Hornets as the sixth overall pick, making France the first foreign nation with at least three native players in the top ten. Risacher is the son of the French basketball player Stéphane Risacher, who won a silver medal with the French national team at the 2000 Olympic Games. He played with French top-division side JL Bourg on loan from ASVEL this past season, before declaring for the NBA draft. The 19-year-old basketball star is looking forward to making his name in Atlanta and helping the Hawks win more games next season. “I feel like there is no pressure. I just focus on the good stuff, you know, on the right stuff, which is playing here. I’m just excited to be with the Hawks right now, and I want to compete and win games. So that’s all,” he said during his introductory news conference.
