World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz Out for Rest of the Season with Abdominal Injury

2022 was an amazing year for Carlos Alcaraz, but he won’t be ending it on a high note. The Spanish teen who climbed to the no. 1 in the ATP rankings this year announced he’ll miss the rest of the season due to an abdominal injury. This announcement comes shortly after Alcaraz withdrew from Paris Masters quarter-final against Denmark's Holger Rune. He chose to retire in an attempt to reduce the damage to an abdominal injury before the ATP Finals, but it turns out we won’t get to see him at this tournament, either. The current world no. 1 was evaluated by a medical team following his withdrawal in Paris, and they determined it will take six weeks to recover from an abdominal muscle tear. “Unfortunately I won't make the ATP Finals or the Davis Cup Finals. It is tough and painful for me to miss these two events, which are so important to me, but all I can do is be positive and focus on my recovery. Thank you for the support!” wrote the 19-year-old tennis player on Twitter. Alcaraz climbed to no. 1 in September, when he became the youngest no. 1 in the history of the ATP rankings following his first Grand Slam victory at the US Open.
