Tiger Woods Out Of 2023 PGA Championship with Ankle Injury

The PGA Championship is just around the corner, but one key player decided to sit this one out. Tiger Woods announced his withdrawal from this year’s PGA Championship as he continues to recover from an ankle injury. Woods underwent a successful ankle surgery last month following his withdrawal from The Masters. He posted an update on social media, revealing that he underwent “a subtalar fusion procedure to address arthritis caused by a previous talus fracture." Wood’s agent Mark Steinberg addressed his recovery in a phone interview with The Associated Press and said there’s "no timetable” on his return to golf. Steinberg added that his “first goal is to recover and lead a much more enjoyable day-to-day life." It can take anywhere from six weeks to three months for the fusion to take place, and this surgery could jeopardize the rest of his season. He previously expressed hope he would take part in four major championships, and we’re yet to see if he’ll recover just in time for the U.S. Open (June 15-18) and The Open (July 20-23). This marks the third time in seven years that Woods will miss the PGA Championship. The tournament will take place at the Oak Hill Country Club in Pittsford, New York from May 18-21.
