The World Athletics Championships is in the full swing right now, and Sydney McLaughlin is turning out to be one of its shiniest stars. The 22-year-old hurdler and sprinter broke her own record in 400 meters hurdles at this event. McLaughlin left the competition in the dust when she finished the race in 50.68 seconds. By doing so, she smashed her own record of 51.41 seconds, set back in June. She still remains a holder of the Olympic record in this discipline, with 51.46 at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. McLaughlin believes she’ll just get better from here, and her latest record-breaking victory was aided by the presence of fans and family at the World Championships. "The time is absolutely amazing and the sport is getting faster and faster. Just figuring out what barriers can be broken. I only get faster from here… I'm grateful to have this crowd. It was absolutely unreal to have my family in the stands,” said McLaughlin following her win. The Netherlands' Femke Bol was right behind McLaughlin and took silver in 52.27. She said it was crazy to witness McLaughlin run this fast, adding it is amazing to come out second in such a race. American hurdler and previous record holder Dalilah Muhammad came in third in 53.13 seconds.
