Serena Williams’ Wimbledon Comeback Cut Short in the First Round

Serena Williams took a year-long break from tennis after Wimbledon last year, and history repeated itself at this year’s tournament. Her attempt to make a comeback was cut short after she lost to Harmony Tan in the first round of the iconic Grand Slam. Williams did her best to stand her ground against Tan, but she eventually defeated her in a dramatic tie-break after three sets. The 24-year-old French player won 7-5 1-6 7-6 (10-7), eliminating Williams from the tournament after three hours and 10 minutes on the court. Williams received a wild-card entry to take part in Wimbledon this year, and she’s hoping this won’t be her last appearance at the All England Club. “I am just playing for right now. I see how I feel and go from there… Today I gave all I could do … Maybe tomorrow I could have gave more. Maybe a week ago I could have gave more. But today was what I could do. At some point you have to be able to be OK with that,” said the 40-year-old tennis legend. Williams is the seven-time Wimbledon singles champion, and she’s currently chasing Margaret Court's record of 24 Grand Slam singles titles. She wants to continue training after her loss in England and appear at her home major the US Open later this summer.
