The list of high-profile players pulling out of the US Open is getting longer by the day, and Serena and Venus Williams just joined the club. The Williams sisters are following the footsteps of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal and cite injuries as the reason for their withdrawal. Serena was the first to announce her exit from the tournament, stating that she made this decision with her medical team in an attempt to give her body enough time to heal from a torn hamstring. "New York is one of the most exciting cities in the world and one of my favorite places to play – I'll miss seeing the fans but will be cheering on from afar. Thank you for your continued love and support. I'll see you soon," said the tennis legend in the official statement. Only a few hours later, her sister Venus followed suit and announced she’s also pulling out of the US Open. She credited a leg injury as the reason for her withdrawal, shortly after losing an opening match at the Chicago Women's Open. Venus said that she tried her best, but “just couldn't make any miracles work” this time around. Serena Williams has six singles US Open titles under her belt, while Venus has two, and this will be the first time since 2003 that neither of them appears at Flushing Meadows.
