Scottie Scheffler Secures His First Win at Hero World Challenge

2023 has been a pretty memorable year for Scottie Scheffler, and he’s ending it on a high note. The current world no. 1 scored another memorable victory at the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas. The exclusive golf tournament hosted by Tiger Woods doesn’t offer FedEx Cup points or official money, but it’s still a huge deal to take part. Only 20 of the top-ranked golf players are invited to compete, and Scheffler finally won it after finishing as runner-up in the past two years. Scheffler started the day with a three-stroke lead over Matt Fitzpatrick, and he wasn’t letting his guard down. The 2023 Players Championship winner finished on 20 under and managed to seal a three-stroke victory ahead of Sepp Straka with a bogey-free four-under-par 68. Scheffler said he’s proud of the way he played this year and throughout 2023, overall, but counting wins is not his priority. “I try not to place too much of my identity on what I shoot on the golf course or how many tournaments I've won. Sometimes when you really struggle with something it kind of helps you reset to remember why I come out here to play this game every week and why I love to do it,” Scheffler told the reporters after the tournament.
