Rory McIlroy always felt right at home at the Wells Fargo Championship, and he was on top of his game this year. The Irish golfer made an epic comeback and stormed past the overnight leader Xander Schauffele to win his fourth Wells Fargo title. Schauffele came into the final day of the tournament as the front-runner, but McIlroy eventually managed to beat him by five strokes. He trailed by two shots after seven holes, and secured a major lead with four birdies and two eagles in the next eight, eventually sealing the deal with a six-under 65. This marks McIlroy’s fourth win at the Wells Fargo Championship, and he thanked the people of Quail Hollow, Charlotte for supporting him throughout his career. “I feel like these people have sort of watched me grow up from winning here as a 20-year-old to being the ripe old age of 35 now. They’ve sort of seen my progression throughout my career, and […] the support that I get here is absolutely amazing,” said McIlroy after his victory. The start of McIlroy’s season has been rocky, but he’s back on track after winning two back-to-back PGA Tour titles. He was crowned as the winner at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans with Shane Lowry before winning the Wells Fargo Championship.
