Roger Federer Will Be Out “For Many Months” Due To Knee Surgery

Roger Federer has five US Open trophies under his belt, but we won’t get to see him play at the upcoming tournament. The Swiss tennis legend will miss this event as he prepares for further knee surgery, and he'll be out for “many months”. This announcement comes shortly after Federer missed the Tokyo Olympics after two knee operations last year. The 40-year-old tennis legend said he’ll be on crutches for many weeks and out of the game for many months, but he’s hoping to make a comeback after going through the rehab process. "It's going to be difficult in some ways but, at the same time, I know it's the right thing to do because I want to be healthy, I want to be running around later as well again. I also want to give myself a glimmer of hope to return to the tour in some shape or form,” said Federer. The Swiss tennis icon hasn’t played a match ever since losing to Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz in the Wimbledon quarterfinals last month. After the loss, Federer admitted there’s a lot of uncertainty regarding his return to SW19 because you “never know what is around the corner” at his age, and he needs to talk to his team before making any decisions about his potential return.
