Roger Federer to Miss Australian Open, Wimbledon Future Put in Jeopardy

Australian Open is just two months away, and Roger Federer won’t be there once it comes back. The 20-time Grand Slam champion will miss the tournament as he recovers from injury, and he’ll likely miss Wimbledon, as well. The Swiss tennis legend discussed his plans for the future with "Le Matin", and revealed that he probably won’t return to the competition until next summer as he recovers from knee surgery. "I would be extremely surprised if I could play Wimbledon. I will be able to resume running quietly in January and resume sessions on the court with complex support in March or April. I, therefore, estimate my return to competition in the summer of 2022," said Federer. The 40-year-old player also discussed his retirement plans, saying he wants to do it on his own terms. Federer added that he’s giving his all in his rehabilitation because it’s the ultimate dream to go back to the tennis court, but “[his] life is not going to collapse if [he doesn’t] play a Grand Slam final again.” Federer announced he’ll be taking a break from tennis after undergoing another knee surgery back in August, shortly after losing in the Wimbledon quarterfinals. Despite his failure to quality any further, he became the oldest Wimbledon quarterfinalist in the Open Era.
