Perez Challenges Verstappen’s Lead with Azerbaijan Grand Prix Win

We’re only four races into the Formula 1 season, but it’s already turning into a face-off between Red Bull’s leading drivers. Sergio Perez is slowly closing on teammate Max Verstappen after scoring another major win at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Perez and Verstappen were battling each other until the very last second in Azerbaijan, and the Mexican racer eventually came out victorious after saving time by making his pit stop under the safety car. Verstappen came in second, while Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc was third despite starting the race in the pole position. Perez addressed his chances to win the World Championship in the post-race interview. He said it’s good to be “in the fight”, but added that he’s aware there’s a whole year ahead of him. “Having three kids at home, I wouldn’t be traveling around the world if I didn’t believe that I can be a world champion and I’m working towards that,” he told Sky TV after the race. This marks Perez’s second win of the season after he secured the victory at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. He’s still six points behind Verstappen in the Drivers' Championship standings, but he’ll get a chance to clinch the lead at the Miami Grand Prix on May 7.
