Novak Djokovic Beats Nick Kyrgios to Win His Seventh Wimbledon Title

Novak Djokovic is no stranger to winning Wimbledon titles, but he took things to a whole new level on Sunday. The Serbian tennis player defeated Nick Kyrgios to win his fourth Wimbledon men's singles title in a row and seventh overall. World no. 40 was off to a good start and won the first set, but Djokovic wasn’t giving up. He quickly made a comeback and managed to beat Kyrgios in the next three sets, scoring a 4-6 6-3 6-4 7-6 (7-3) win on Centre Court. This marked the first Grand Slam final for Kyrgios, who happens to be the lowest-ranked Wimbledon men’s finalist in almost a decade. He’s also the lowest-ranked opponent defeated by Djokovic in a Grand Slam final, but the Serb praised his performance and said he’ll be back in another final. Following this win, Djokovic is just one Grand Slam win away from breaking Rafael Nadal’s record of 22 major crowns. He’s also just one victory short of Roger Federer’s record of eight Wimbledon triumphs, and this tournament will always hold a special place in his heart. “I always dreamed of coming here, just playing on this court, and then realizing the childhood dream of winning this trophy. Every single time it gets more meaningful and more special, so I’m very blessed and very thankful to be standing here with the trophy,” said Djokovic after his most recent Wimbledon victory.
