The Alpine Ski World Cup is in the full swing right now, and no one’s having a better time at this competition than Mikaela Shiffrin. She scored the 83rd victory of her career to become the most successful woman in World Cup skiing history, breaking the record previously held by Lindsey Vonn. Shiffrin scored her latest win in a dramatic giant slalom triumph, and finished 0.45 seconds ahead of the field, beating Italy’s Marta Bassino and Switzerland’s Lara Gut-Behrami. This triumph brings Shiffrin’s total to 83 career wins, including 51 in slalom, 18 in giant slalom, five in super-G and parallel slalom each, three in downhill, and one in Alpine combined. Shiffrin surpassed fellow American Lindsey Vonn to become the most decorated female athlete at the Women's World Cup. She’s also just three wins away from breaking the overall record held by Ingemar Stenmark with 86 wins. Shiffrin said it’s hard to find words to describe her excitement, adding she’s just trying to enjoy the moment. "I don't think there are words to explain all the feelings because during the day it's stressful, sometimes peaceful, sometimes nervous, sometimes exciting. These days with two runs… they're exhausting and at the end of it there's too much excitement to feel,” Shiffrin told Eurosport.
