Matthieu Pavon Becomes First French Player to Win PGA Tour Event Since 1907

It’s been over a century since a French player was crowned the winner of a major PGA Tour event, but the wait is finally over! Matthieu Pavon won the Farmers Insurance Open this past weekend to become the first Frenchman to win on the PGA Tour since 1907. Pavon sealed his victory after shooting a three-under-par round of 69 to win by one shot, a stroke ahead of Denmark's Nicolai Hojgaard. His victory at Torrey Pines in San Diego marks his first PGA Tour triumph, and it comes a few months after he won the DP World Tour at the Spanish Open this past October. Pavon is the first Frenchman to lift a trophy at a PGA Tour event since Arnaud Massy in 1907, and he’s grateful for the opportunity to be a part of this league. "I can't thank the PGA Tour enough to give us the opportunity to come from Europe and compete here in America against the best players in the world. That's always been the dream for me. I got finally a shot and I took it,” said Pavon. He also described his win as “historic for French golf”, and added he hopes a lot of people will be inspired after seeing an amateur player win.
