Longtime NFL Quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick Set to Retire After 17 Years

After 17 years and nine teams in the NFL, the longtime quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick is ready to say goodbye. After almost two decades of bringing his signature “FitzMagic” to every team he played for, it's been reported that he announced his decision to retire. The news of Fitzpatrick’s retirement broke after his former teammate Fred Jackson shared a text that hints at his exit from the NFL. He’s yet to release an official statement, but calling it quits makes sense in Fitzpatrick’s case since he sustained a hip subluxation injury playing for the Washington Football Team and missed the rest of the season after being put on injured reserve. Even though he’s retiring, Fitzpatrick probably won’t turn his back on the NFL for good. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, he’s discussing the possibility of joining Amazon’s football coverage in a "key role", but he’s yet to sign an official deal. Fitzpatrick is a Harvard-educated quarterback who kicked off his career in the NFL in 2005 with the St. Louis Rams. In the years to come, he started as quarterback for nine different teams, the most in NFL’s history. He spent most of his time with the Buffalo Bills, where he played for four seasons, but also had short stints with the New York Jets, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and the Miami Dolphins.
