LeBron James Confirms He’ll Play His 21st Season with the Lakers

Retirement rumors have been following LeBron James for years, but he’s not going anywhere. The King said he’s planning to continue playing basketball during the ESPY Awards in Los Angeles on Wednesday, confirming he’ll return to the Los Angeles Lakers for his 21st NBA season. LeBron James was nominated for Best Record-Breaking Performance at this ceremony, after breaking Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s all-time career scoring record earlier this season. Tennis player Novak Djokovic, Formula 1 champion Max Verstappen, and skier Mikaela Shiffrin were also in the running for this award, but James ended up beating them and addressed his plans for the future in his acceptance speech. "I don't care how many more points I score, or what I can or cannot do on the floor. The real question for me is: Can I play without cheating this game? The day I can't give everything on the floor is the day I'll be done. Lucky for you guys, that day is not today," said James. The King has nothing left to prove after breaking Abdul-Jabbar’s record, but he’s been determined to keep playing despite his injury issues. James repeatedly said that his greatest goal is to play alongside his eldest son Bronny, who’s set to start his freshman season at USC in the fall.
