Many high-profile players left the PGA Tour for the Saudi-backed LIV Golf League since its launch, and Jon Rahm is the next one in line. Masters champion is the latest golf star to make a switch to LIV Golf, marking the league’s most significant signing so far. Rahm hasn’t publicly discussed the terms of his deal, but it’s been reported he’ll make approximately £450 million after agreeing to make a switch. According to The Telegraph, the first £240 million will be paid upfront, and he’ll get the rest in the form of bonuses and team franchise fees. Jon Rahm’s PGA Tour departure comes as quite a shocker given his previous comments regarding the LIV Golf. When the Saudi-backed league was first introduced, he said that the format wasn’t appealing to him and that money wouldn’t change his mind because he was playing for his history and legacy. Rahm was accused of hypocrisy after joining LIV Golf, but he believes it was the right thing to do for himself and his family. “What I said before is true: I do not play golf for the money. I play golf for the love of the game and for the love of golf. But, as a husband, as a father, and as a family man I have a duty to my family to give them the best opportunities and the most amount of resources possible,” Rahm told reporters.
