Joel Embiid Out Indefinitely with Lateral Meniscus Injury

Joel Embiid already missed 12 games since the start of the season, and that number will soon grow even higher. The reigning MVP will miss multiple games with a lateral meniscus injury, which he suffered during Tuesday night’s game against the Golden State Warriors. Embiid dealt with knee soreness coming into the game with the Warriors, and things got even worse after Golden State’s Jonathan Kuminga fell on his left leg while diving for a ball. He underwent an MRI after the game and has been diagnosed with a lateral meniscus injury. It’s unclear when Embiid will be back because the team is yet to finalize a treatment plan, and there’s no timetable for his recovery. The 29-year-old is no stranger to meniscus injuries, and he even underwent a season-ending arthroscopic procedure for the meniscus tear in his left knee during his rookie season. Embiid’s most recent injury could significantly impact his MVP chances, especially after he already missed 12 games this season. His performance has been pretty stellar before the injury, and he’s currently NBA’s leading scorer at 35.3 points per game this season. He also recently made history by scoring a franchise-record 70 points against the San Antonio Spurs, becoming the ninth player in NBA history to net 70 or more points in a single game.
