Former No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki Coming Out of Retirement

Three years after stepping away from tennis, Caroline Wozniacki is gearing up for an epic comeback. The former no. 1 announced her return to tennis in an open letter she wrote for “Vogue”, and she’s setting her eyes on the US Open this summer. Wozniacki decided to step away from tennis in 2020 and used her time away from the sport to make up for the lost time with her family. She gave birth to two children during her break, and she now wants to show them it’s possible to pursue your dreams, no matter your age. “I know that five years from now, when the kids are in school, it will be too late. I’m not going to make any bold predictions—but if I didn’t believe in myself, I wouldn’t be doing this: I’m too competitive to just show up and not feel like I’m going to be one of the best players out there,” she explained. Wozniacki already has a clear game plan in mind, and she’ll make her comeback at the Canadian Open in Montreal in August, before heading to the US Open. She reached the final at this tournament in 2009 and 2014, and she’s already been handed a wildcard for the upcoming event. The 32-year-old is also hoping to compete at the Paris Olympics and the Australian Open next year, after winning this Grand Slam in 2018.
