Emma Raducanu Missing French Open and Wimbledon After Ankle Surgery

Most major tennis players are gearing up for the upcoming spring and summer Grand Slams, but Emma Raducanu isn’t one of them. The former US Open champion recently announced that she’ll miss the French Open and Wimbledon in the wake of recent ankle surgery. Raducanu shared the news by posting a photo from a hospital, revealing she underwent “a minor procedure” on her right ankle. She’ll undergo similar surgery on her left ankle, after dealing with recurring injury on a bone of both hands for the last ten months. Raducanu said she tried to downplay the issue and hoped things would get better, but it’s now clear that she’ll have to miss the summer events. "I tried my best to manage the pain and play through it for most of this year and end of last year by reducing practice load dramatically, missing weeks of training as well as cutting last season short to try to heal it. Unfortunately, it is not enough," she said in a press release. Raducanu rose to prominence after winning the US Open in 2021, but her career was hindered by injuries in the years to come. The 20-year-old British player reached a career-high ranking of no. 10 last July, but she’s now expected to drop out of the top 100.
