Devin Haney Defeats George Kambosos Jr. to Become Undisputed Lightweight Champion

Devin Haney entered his latest match against George Kambosos Jr. as a clear favorite and managed to exceed our wildest expectations. The 23-year-old boxer came out victorious, becoming the undisputed lightweight champion and making history along the way. Haney defended his belt at the Marvel Stadium in Melbourne on Saturday, and all the judges were on his side. Two judges scored it 116-112 for Haney, while the third have him 118-110. This victory is quite historic because Haney became the first undisputed lightweight champion since Pernell Whitaker in 1990. He’s also the first boxer to become the undisputed lightweight champion in the four-belt era, which kicked off in 2004. Haney described this win as “a dream come true”, adding he felt pretty comfortable coming into this match because he had clear gameplay in mind and stuck to it. “The gameplan was to go in and hit and not get hit, and I did that for the majority of the fight. I took the last round off because I knew I was comfortably ahead, but I fought a good, smart fight," said Haney. Haney won his very first WBC lightweight championship in 2019, and he’s been holding the title ever since. He’s also the winner of WBA, WBO, and IBF titles and one of the eighth male boxers to hold all four belts.
