Charles Leclerc started this year’s race for the Formula 1 World Championship with a bang, only to lose his lead to Max Verstappen. After several disappointing races, the Ferrari driver proved he’s still a force to be reckoned with thanks to a dominant win at the Austrian Grand Prix. Leclerc revived his title hopes, finishing first for the third time this season. It initially seemed he’ll share the podium with his teammate Carlos Sainz, but he lost his lead after an engine failure. Once again, Verstappen was his biggest rival, especially in the final ten laps, but Leclerc didn’t break under pressure. This win is a huge deal for Leclerc, who opened the season with a win at the Bahrain Grand Prix, but quickly lost his lead to Verstappen. He cut his championship lead to 38 points, moving to second place ahead of Red Bull’s Sergio Perez. “I definitely needed that one. The last five races have been incredibly difficult for myself and for the team. To finally show that we have the pace in the car and we can do it is incredible. We need to push until the end,” said Leclerc post-race. Despite losing to his biggest rival, Verstappen took second place and had the fastest lap in Austria. It was also a big day for Lewis Hamilton, who finished third, marking his third consecutive no. 3 placement, following the Canadian Grand Prix and British Grand Prix.
