Carlos Alcaraz Makes History with His No. 5 Ranking

Carlos Alcaraz is one of the biggest rising tennis stars of 2022, and his ATP ranking finally reflects his quick ascent to the top. The Spanish teen secured a no. 5 spot in the ATP rankings, becoming the youngest player since Rafael Nadal to do so. Alcaraz reached his new career-high following the Hamburg European Open. He could’ve secured the no. 4 spot if he had won the tournament, but he eventually lost the final to Lorenzo Musetti. Alcaraz’s current ranking is pretty impressive for a player who kicked the season off as world no. 32 and he’ll keep striving to play better – and maybe even hit no. 1 one day! “It means a lot. The hard work that I put in every day for reaching my dreams, [no..] 1, and little by little I’m reaching my dream. Top five for me is pretty amazing and I will keep going to be [no.] 1,” said Alcaraz. The Spanish teen was 19 years, two months, and 20 days old when his no. 5 ranking was confirmed by ATP on July 25. This makes him the second-youngest player in the 21st century to crack the top five, following in the footsteps of fellow Spaniard Rafael Nadal, who was 18 years, 11 months, and six days old when he reached no. 5 in 2005.
