Anthony Davis Signs Historic $186-Million Max Extension with LA Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers wouldn’t be the team they are today without Anthony Davis, and they’re betting big on his future. They signed a three-year max extension with their star player worth $186 million, making NBA history along the way. According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, Davis’ agent and Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul stated that his new deal will kick in during the 2025-26 campaign and keep him in LA through 2028. He’ll be earning an average of $62 million per season, which makes his new deal the richest annual contract in NBA history. Davis made it clear he wants to stick around with the Lakers ahead of the playoffs because his entire family loves being in Los Angeles. “I love playing for the Lakers. When the time is up, honestly, I’m not sure the direction the team wants to go or who knows the conversation we’ll have. But when the time comes, we’ll sit down, have those conversations and go from there,” said Davis back in March. Davis joined the Lakers from the New Orleans Pelicans in 2019, and his track record has been pretty impressive even though he missed at least 26 games in each of the past three seasons due to injuries. The 30-year-old player averaged 25.9 points and 12.5 rebounds over 56 games with the Lakers past season.
