Andy Murray Exits US Open After Dramatic Match Against Stefanos Tsitsipas

Many tennis greats withdrew from this year’s US Open, but Andy Murray decided to stand his ground and gave it his all in his first match. Despite his best efforts, the British player failed to defeat Stefanos Tsitsipas, but their face-off was one for the ages. Former no. 1 champion played in the manner that reminded us of his glory days and even took a two-set lead after the first three sets, but Tsitsipas managed to make a comeback. Four hours and 44 minutes later, the Greek was the one celebrating the victory after defeating Murray 2-6, 7-6, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. Murray didn’t take the loss standing down and called out Tsitsipas for taking lengthy bathroom breaks throughout the match. The Greek didn’t technically break any rules, but Murray felt this influenced the outcome of the match. Despite his loss, the British tennis champion was pretty happy with his performance because he got to prove that he can still play on the same level as he used to, after a year ridden with injuries and health problems. “From a physical perspective, I thought I did quite well. I would have liked to have done a little bit better physically at times, but there were also other circumstances that were not helping that either,” said Murray.
