Alexander Zverev entered this year’s Mexican Open as one of the top seeds, but his time at the tournament was cut short for a shocking reason. The world no. 3 was thrown out of the tournament after throwing a temper tantrum moments after losing a doubles match. Zverev and Marcelo Melo faced Lloyd Glasspool and Harri Heliovaara on Tuesday night in Acapulco and ended up losing 6-2, 4-6, 10-6. The German tennis player didn’t take the loss lightly and ended up smashing his racket on the umpire's chair. His outburst wasn’t over then, and he yelled at umpire Alessandro Germani after hitting his chair three times, telling him he “destroyed the whole f-ing match'.' Following the incident, Zverev received a code violation and was promptly removed from the tournament. The world no. 3 apologized for his unsportsmanlike behavior on social media, saying it’s difficult to put into words how much he regrets his behavior during and after the doubles match. "I have privately apologized to the chair umpire because my outburst towards him was wrong and unacceptable, and I am only disappointed in myself. It just should not have happened and there is no excuse,” he wrote. Zverev entered the Mexican Open as a defending champion in the singles event, after beating Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final last year.
