Every Wimbledon match was leading up to the great showdown between Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic, and their face-off was one for the history books. The duo delivered an epic five-set thriller, and Alcaraz eventually emerged as the winner, lifting the Wimbledon trophy for the first time. After a slow start in the first set, Alcaraz decided to show the audience at the All-England Club what he’s made of. The second set was one wild rollercoaster, and the Spaniard experienced a huge boost of confidence after prevailing over Djokovic, eventually winning the whole thing after almost five hours on the court. He won 1-6 7-6 (8-6) 6-1 3-6 6-4 against the defending champion Djokovic and ended his quest for the record-equaling 24th Grand Slam Title. Alcaraz also made history as the third youngest man to win the Wimbledon title in the Open era after Boris Becker and Bjorn Borg. He's also the first winner outside of the Big Four since Lleyton Hewitt in 2002. The 20-year-old described his Wimbledon triumph as the happiest moment of his life, adding that this victory sends a strong message to a younger generation of players. “Beating Novak at his best, in this stage, making history, being the guy to beat him after 10 years unbeaten on that court, is amazing for me... It's great for the new generation, as well, I think to see me beating him and making them think that they are capable to do it, as well,” said Alcaraz.
