Washington Nationals’ Juan Soto Wins 2022 Home Run Derby

Juan Soto’s future with the Washington Nationals remains in limbo, but that’s not stopping him from keeping his head in the game. The Dominican MLB outfielder was on top of his game at the Home Run Derby and managed to win this competition for the first time. Soto entered the competition as the no. 4 seed and took down everyone who stood in his way. After defeating Jose Ramirez in the opening round, he went on to beat Albert Pujols in the semi-finals, and eventually scored 19-18 against the Seattle Mariners’ Julio Rodriguez in the final round. Soto became the youngest Home Run Derby champion at 23 and said it feels amazing to win this title. This victory comes amid ongoing trade rumors concerning Washington’s star player, and it comes shortly after he reportedly rejected a 15-year, $440 million contract extension with the team. Soto was mostly tight-lipped about his future with the Nationals, but he recently opened up about the rumors and said it “feels real uncomfortable” to see the details of his contract talks leaked to the public. “It was pretty tough. Pretty frustrating. I try to keep my stuff private, don’t try to throw stuff out there. It feels really bad, but at the end of the day we just have to keep playing,” said Soto.
