Sevilla Beat Roma on Penalties To Take Europa League Crown

This Europa League season was quite rocky for Sevilla, but they managed to win another trophy! Sevilla defeated Roma on penalties at the Puskas Arena in Budapest to claim their record-extending seventh Europa League win on Wednesday. Sevilla was down on their luck in the first half, and their chances weren’t looking good after Paulo Dybala scored the opening goal and gave Roman a well-deserved 1-0 lead. Gianluca Mancini’s own goal eventually forced a draw in the second half, and Sevilla relied on penalties to secure their latest win. The match extended beyond 130 minutes and gave us many epic moments, but Sevilla’s domination during the penalty shootout stole the show. Lucas Ocampos, Erik Lamela, Ivan Rakitic, and Gonzalo Montiel led their side to a 4-1 penalty win. José Luis Mendilibar deserves all the credit for leading Sevilla to their latest victory. He came on board as a coach back in March, and the team quickly transformed into a winning machine under his guidance. “I’m happy to be here, to have won for the club, which was having a hard time when we got here. We have done something good that can have repercussions for the good of the club. When I take a holiday, I will know what we have done,” said Mendilibar post-match.
